Trailers Trailers and more trailers

So E3 has come and gone and with it AMAZING trailers and gaming news.

But who wants news with trailer goodness so here are the titles that sparked my interest or made me giddy like a child in anticipation.

Mass Effect 4 Andromeda

And for some fun some of my personal favorite older trailers

My Review of Mass Effect 3

So I been slowly rehabbing my shoulder by playing Mass Effect 3 and few things (good and bad) jump out at me. But over all I quite enjoyed the game.

So here my list of observations

1) They seem to have shifted back to a more Mass Effect 1 style of game. Still comes up short when compared to ME1 on the RP side of things but you can definitely see the changes from the Mass Effect 2 pure action mind set. Over all, pretty decent story and RPG this time around

2) Was so happy to see they reverted back to Mass Effect 1 Romance scene style. No nudity or any of that but also no Black Screen junk. Its such a minor part of the game but the black screen crap in ME2 really did ruin the immersion or aesthetics of game. Much better this time around in ME3.

3) They tried to tie up all loose ends for the franchise as this was the final chapter of this story line. There will be a Mass Effect 4 and possibly more but this was the end of this trilogy. So was nice to have some closure for a change (unlike Dragon Age 1 where you never see your Warden Character again and left wondering what went on. A good RPG tells a story and treats games like stories where the readers get closure on their favorite characters.)

4) Quite liked the Endings honestly. I know there was a huge uproar about the ending of ME3 (and maybe this the changed version? Dont know) but I quite liked the ending of ME3. Granted it was limited in action and I could see people wanting a huge boss fight or something. But for pure storytelling, I found ME3 ending quite fulfilling.

5) LOVED the new citadel. Still far cry from ME1 Citadel granted. But much much much better then the 2-3 floor Citadel of ME2. ME2 was to confined and cramped. ME3 felt larger and more spread out. ME1 was still the run away best and I still think EA should have just put that Citadel back in with expanded areas added on.

6) Only paid $5.00 for game (which is my new standard for all EA products. I will not buy them for more then $10.00/game. May have to wait 2 years after release for game to drop to that price but so be it.

Now for the bad, not much but here is how I saw it

1) Once again (and honestly I think this is a EA standard now) the areas were to small. Not all of them granted but many locations were simple little 5 minute maps and done. I like space (room to maneuver) and exploration and felt ME3 while huge in scope felt very confined for most of the game.

2) Very disappointed with the Protean (Ashes to Ashes expansion) Race. They built up this race with such grandeur and reverence and what you finally get is whats his name (alien guy from Stargate SG1 series). Completely and utterly disappointed in his character and mannerisms and it felt very rushed and short sighted to me.
Some great interaction with him as a party member (which was great) but I just feel they took the really easy road/path out.

3) and the common complaint you read about all over the net for this game (please read to understand before reacting to statement). The homosexuality ruined part of the game for me.
Let me explain. Its not that they have the gay content, its that I have no faith in EA (based completely on previous non homosexuality content where I'm trying to be nice and understanding and its presented as me making sexual moves/advances) to not push me into such a role because I behaved in a way that wasn't a jerk.
So to avoid that content (as I have zero interest in seeing it) I found myself playing the jerk in conversations with other male NPCs, just to avoid being pigeon holed into that content.
And that detracted from the game for me as I knew I wasn't fully exploring back stories and histories (the interesting stuff)
I don't care if they put gay characters in, I just know for me, its of no interest and have no desire to go down one of those story line paths.
To be honest, until EA/Bioware become much better at conversations where they understand asking whats wrong is NOT code for "I wanna sleep with you", I'd prefer they just asked at start of game if you want the gay content in your game or not. That way everyone happy and everyone can get full effect of game with out stumbling into the stuff, or avoiding content so they dont get mistakingly put into the content.
Over all the game is a huge step up from Mass Effect 2 but still falls well short of Mass Effect 1
I give it a 7.5/10
ME1: 9.5/10
ME2: 6/10
ME3: 7.5/10

Closing:
Early indications from the upcoming Dragon Age Inquizitor game suggests the horrid action game experiment with Bioware titles has ended and EA has the devs making more traditional Bioware style content again.
Not that they will ever admit it but guess they really did take a huge financial hit for ME2 and DA2 that they trended back into more RPG genre.
And I'm thrilled as I could be about that!
