HZT Week 7

Hero of the Week

So sad news from the Pro Wrestling world.

Rowdy Roddy Piper (Roderick George Toombs, Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada ) Died from Cardiac Arrest at Age 61 in his sleep.

So this weeks Hero is the memory of the Rowdy one, Hot Rod, Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Just when you thought you had the answer, he would change the question.
Master of the very technical and delicate "EYE POKE"

Roddy Piper's Hall of Fame induction video

A more natural entertainer was never made.
Be it in the Pro Wrestling Ring where he routinely took opponents losing their draw and made them the hottest feud in town. Night after night after night.

Roddy was a master of his craft in the squared circle and there simply was no one better on the mic for a generation.

His most famous segment was his over the top Pipers Pit with the great Jimmy Snuka (warning, this is very politically incorrect and no wrestler could get away with something like this in today's environment. But back in the early 80s he was the villain and was trying to create a feud with sometime good guy Jimmy Snuka. After this segment Jimmy Snuka reached levels of crowd appreciation he had never encountered before) One of the most famous and hottest selling feuds of all time was created in this short 4 minute video segment.

Piper then transitioned into Hollywood movies.
He didn't have the national attention or fame of a Hulk Hogan but for my money Roddy was 10000000 times the wrestler or actor then Hogan could ever be. And you can be sure Hot Rod paved the way for future Pro Wrestling stars turned actors like The Rock. The doors Roddy opened in the 80s and 90s made it possible for pro wrestlers to get a chance.

The most famous movie Roddy ever appeared in was a low budget Sci Fi that became a world wide hit in the theaters called THEY LIVE. It is actually a very good movie with good pacing, great acting, and just keeps you interested from start to finish.

But my personal favorite movie of Roddy's was a LOW LOW LOW Budget sci fi called Hell Comes to Frogtown. This movie is sooooo bad that I just never stopped laughing. And as a pro wrestling fan I completely lost it when Piper "EYE POKED" a guy in a Rubber Frog Suit (hey I said it was low low low budget).

Here is the entire movie on Youtube, Hell Comes to Frogtownheh, don't say I didn't warn you

Just a great performer in and out of the ring and someone who could always get the crowd excited for his matches, or just for him talking. No matter if he was the good guy or the bad guy, he always got the reaction he was looking for. And because of that, you always got the experience you were looking for from the matches.

RIP Roddy,
You leave behind a legacy of excellence that will push the future would be stars to their limits to match.

Zero of the Week

So this weeks Zero of the Week is SOCIALISM! It just doesn't work
Allot of noise has been made these past couple years about minimum wage, pay equity, and other key left wing socialist calling cards.

And it just doesn't work

But that has not happened some people and political parties from pushing the Socialist agenda forward. Usually to disastrous results.

Remember Dan Price, Founder and CEO of Gravity Payments. He made world wide headlines by raising his companies minimum salary to $70,000 /year.

The socialist brigade cheered him loudly.
Everyone from the mail sorter to dept heads all make roughly the same money.
What could possibly go wrong with such a fair distribution of the wealth.
Surely the top people do not mind giving up their income potential so that the most entry level position could make close to same amount as them.
How could anyone possibly object to that?

Right?
Right?
Right?

Well, if you have even the most basic understanding of how business and industry works, you saw this coming from day one.

Yup, his brightest and best staff are leaving him.
Once the novelty of such a amazing socialist choice wore out,
The same people that cheered him suddenly realized they have no upward earning potential because Billy Bob Joe the busboy with a grade 7 education makes the same amount as they do despite them working harder, longer, and requiring much more skills and expertise.
Suddenly the socialists were not so socialist, when they realized it was their money paying these equalization salaries.

Here the story
Here a 2nd version of story

Or how about the Socialist movement of increasing minimum wage.
Seattle recently made headlines forcing through a $15.00/hour minimum wage.
The Socialists minds exploded in glee

FINALLY *they Bellowed* everyone can make a living wage (completely ignoring the reality of markets that when operating costs increase that cost is transferred over to the consumer in price increases, effectually meaning that those not affected by wage increase have LESS MONEY TO SPEND as they did not receive the bump the lower income earners did. Despite, in many cases, working harder and requiring greater education and training.

Well as predicted the wage increase did NOT result in less demand on public resources like Welfare and social aide. In fact numerous businesses are reporting that many of their workers now demanding LESS HOURS so they remain qualified to claim welfare subsidies and food bank access.

All $15.00/hour did was lower the actually earning power/spending power of the middle class earners and allow the freeloader to work even less hours then they were willing to before.

Source #1
Source #2

I'll not waste space on even more sources but there is hundreds of articles about this from all sides of the political spectrum.

Of course another concern about forced wage increases is technology replacing the workers.
In Alberta Canada the new NDP provincial government heard these claims and brushed them off as fiction, scare tactics, propaganda of the right wing to try and discredit her claims of how a $15.00/hour will magically solve all Alberta's low income problems.

Well here is McDonalds answer to the $15.00/hour minimum wage (as shown in Los Angles but coming to a McD's near you) Its COMPLETELY LEGAL and will result is massive firing and lay offs.

Which begs the question, whats better? A EMPLOYED $10.00/hour minimum wage worker or a UNEMPLOYED and on welfare worker who lives in a area with a $15.00/hour minimum wage.

I know what I think is more productive and better but then again, I'm not a socialist.

Socialism does not work in modern full sized Countries.
It just does not
Capitalism isn't much better, BUT IT IS BETTER.

Even political figures who claim to support a $15.00/hour minimum wage do not practice what they preach. Surely since they so in favor of it, they already pay their employees a minimum of $15.00/hours. After all, if its so good and needed then there is no reason at all to wait for it to become law. It you trust and believe in it so much you should willingly already pay to that level, right?

Well Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders doesn't see it that way. Doing the "right" thing only applies when you are forced to by law apparently. I can't help wondering how many Canadian socialist's (Liberals and NDP) would be guilty of the same hypocrisy if we were allowed that type of access into their business ventures.

In my world, if you believe in something and think its the right thing to do, you do it BECAUSE it's the right thing to do, not because it's mandated by law.

Let's face it, the whole $15.00/hour scam is a bribe and nothing but a bribe to get the lower income voters out to the polls.

I know in Alberta, with the new provincial tax laws coming into place by the NDP (and when they put in the PST/HST and carbon tax AFTER federal election done) the truth is those low income people will see little of that Wage increase and what they do see will quickly be eaten up by higher prices and costs. Effectually lowering their over all spending power and eliminating a great many jobs.

And that does not even begin to address the price it will have on businesses closing up operations and/or moving out of province/state for greener pastures.

Truth is, outside a very small market country like Norway (only 5 million people but the 2nd largest per capita petroleum developer in world), Socialism just does not work.

Comparing Norway to Canada (or USA) is like comparing a successful mom and pop Pizza Shop to Some massive chain of high quality restaurants. What works for the Mom and Pop Pizza shop only works because they are a 1 shop, family owned business. It does not translate to the giant chains.

So Socialism is the Zero of the Week.
Its a great concept and I do actually wish it worked and was viable
But it is not and that has been proven with out doubt or question time and time and time again through out history.
Capitalism isn't much better mind you (but it is BETTER for a country like Canada or USA)
Personally I prefer a moderation of both styles.
A give an take based on each individual issue and whats best for the country
NOT what promise will buy the most votes
Because in the end, all Socialism is, for a country like Canada, is vote buying
Empty promises that can not be held up or maintained for long periods of time.
They are just short term bribes to earn votes and nothing but.

Tech of the Week

Tech of the Week is sure to get some people in a panic because its right out of Sci Fi.

Brain to brain networking.

That's right, Star Treks "THE BORG" technology is being worked on and scientists have successfully connected 3 monkey brains together at one time.

Here is the full story

HZT Week 6 "update"

Just wanted to update everyone on the fall out of Cecil the Lion being murdered by Walter James Palmer.

One of the biggest dangers when a pack leader like Cecil was is killed is the fall out to his blood line.

Very often the new pack leader will kill off all of the old pack leaders children to ensure the new bloodline is the prominent and dominant bloodline now.

So in the weeks after Cecil was killed there was real concern that many offspring would be killed as the pride changed leadership.

But then Jerico stepped in. Jerico was Cecils brother and he stepped in and protected Cecils off spring to ensure their survival.
A huge sigh of relief could be heard around the world of conversationalist and animal rights activists.

Image of Jerico

Finally something good happened in this tragic and heart breaking story.

Until today that is.

Zimbabwe officials just announced that Jerico was also murdered by poachers last night and now the destruction of Cecils and Jericos bloodline in the pride is all but guaranteed to be finished.

You do not even need to be an animal lover to understand how this HAS TO STOP!

Recent report stated that Africa Lion population has decrease by over 80%-90% since 1975 thanks to legal and illegal hunting of Lions and other environmental concerns. Do we really need to make another breed of animal extinct before we finally care enough to step in?

The news is even worse for Rhinos through out the world with the White Rhino now numbering single digit numbers remaining alive.

Its time for Canada, USA, UK, and rest of civilized world to step up and put an end to poaching to ensure the survival of these animals already.

UPDATE:
Some sources are claiming now Jerico is still alive so will have to watch this story closely to see which version turns out true

UPDATE:
Senators introduce Cecil Act

PS: This also verifies that Cecils Carcass was left in bush to rot by Palmer and NOT cut up as meat for surrounding people, as pro hunting crowd has tried to claim over and over falsely.

HZT Week 6

Missed last week and little late this week but we have a candidate for Scumbag of the Year in our Zero of the Week area. Never forget the name of the worlds biggest coward and scumbag WALTER JAMES PALMER of Minnesota.

Hero of the Week

With the Zero of the Week being such a piece of shit and just pure evil, I needed to find a hero that would lighten the load and bring a smile to peoples faces.

So this weeks Hero of the Week is two fold

1) Worlds Oldest Panda (who doesn't love Pandas after all).

Jia jia the Panda celebrates his 37th birthday and becomes officially the oldest panda ever.

2) How could we not make Cecil the human loving Lion a hero as well.

Rest in Peace Cecil
Rest in Peace

Zero of the Week (AKA Scumbag of the Year thus far)

So I'm sure by now most people have heard the name Walter James Palmer.
Hes the COWARD that murdered the 13 year old Lion known as Cecil in Zimbabwe for $55,000.

But his evil goes so far beyond just killing a Lion (which to me at least is unthinkable and beyond defend-able)

He targeted this lion (its name was Cecil and had a hugely celebrated history in Zimbabwe and was a KNOWN PROTECTED LION) INSIDE the security of a Animal Sanctuary in Zimbabwe.

He lured Cecil the Lion out of the sanctuary by feeding it and playing on its well known reputation for loving and trusting humans, as he pulled the lion outside the protected area

He then shot Cecil the Lion with a bow and arrow severely injuring, terrorizing, and traumatizing the Lion. Understand the confusion Cecil had to be going through at this point. He had always loved humans and interacted with them with no incident. He was as close to the very definition of the FRIENDLY LION. And this piece of shit dentist was torturing, tormenting, and terrorizing him out of the blue for no reason at all.

He then tortured Cecil the Lion for 40 hours before FINALLY ending its suffering by shooting it with a rifle.

He then TRIED to destroy the radio collar around the Cecil the Lions neck (tried to destroy evidence of his corrupt and evil deeds)

He then skinned Cecil and decapitated him so he could have his trophy's and pictures of his COWARDLINESS
Make no mistake, Walter James Palmer is EVIL.
And he is a fucking coward of the worst kind.
If you are religious type, this Piece of garbage is what you would call MISSING HIS SOUL
And whats worse is he thinks he is the victim here because people around the world are disgusted and enraged by his cowardly actions.

The USA is currently deciding if they will lay charges against him or if they will extradited to Zimbabwe for them to charge him.

Personally I say send him to Zimbabwe and if he EVER gets out of their prison system. Then you charge and convict him in America and make him spend the rest of his natural life in prison.

Its not enough punishment for what he did but its as close as we can get to a fitting punishment.

What will probably happen is he will get a slap on wrist by the USA legal system. So if that happens its up to the world to make sure this piece of garbage is never forgotten and his crimes against humanity are held against him for ever and ever and ever.

This cowardly piece of crap should never have a single night of rest going forward.

I honestly can not fully describe the level of hatred I have for this cowardly embarrassment of a human being. If he truly loves the thrill of the hunt (as he claims still) lets toss him in some underground fight circuits where his prey will fight back. Lets see how well he does there and if the thrill of the hunt still holds the same appeal when some monster of a man is breaking his arms and legs for the amusement of the crowd.

Some how I suspect Walter James Palmer only finds the thrill when he holds all the power and weapons.

As I said, he is the very definition of a EVIL EVIL EVIL COWARD.

Below is a number of articles on this piece of crap along with links to two different petitions. One asking Lion Hunting be banned outright and the other demanding Justice for Cecil the Lion

HZT Week 5

Hero of the Week:

Colorado Fish and Wildlife Agency along with Colorado Police and University of Boulder Security.

They all get big thumbs up because they all didn't shoot first and not ask questions later.

If you are not aware of what I am speaking about, a black bear decided to visit the University of Colorado campus and unlike its relative in Ontario who visited a Newmarket area, this bear left alive and well, relocated to a region suitable for it to live in.

We need more Wildlife and police that do not simply kill any animal that enters our boundaries. Our boundries us to be their hunting areas and as we expand and grow they are pushed back into smaller and smaller areas and habitats. So the LEAST we can do is help them relocate to suitable habitats when they does occasionally encroach on our ever expanding territories.

I understand if a animal attacks or harms a person or pet or another living thing.

But in both cases above the bears simply wandered into populated areas and got lost.
The Newmarket Bear was loss for 3 days and had 0 incidents with people/pets/anything. It had shown NO AGGRESSION what so ever when it was shot dead for being scared and looking agitated when cornered and chased up a tree by police.

STUPIDITY won out that day.

So big thumbs up to Colorado Fish and Wildlife for NOT just killing the bear.

Kinda sad we are now at such a low point that we need to cheer and celebrate when people simply do their jobs correctly and competently, but it is what it is, and thats where we find ourselves now in society in general.

Please note: I will say however it does seem that Ontario Canada has a kill on sight standing orders from our provincial government as every incident with any type of animal since Liberals came into power has resulted in the animal being killed. Hell they even banned a dog breed rather then spend 10 minutes to educate themselves on the issue.

Ontario right now is sadly ran by a very anti animal and anti wildlife government (based completely on their actions and choices made).

As a 2nd Celebration of someone doing their job correctly and with honor I would like to cheer for BC Conversation Officer Bryce Casavant for REFUSING to kill two bear cubs because its mother repeatably opened a poorly locked meat freezer to find food. The mother was shot dead as per laws about wildlife raiding human settlements and garbage (which again would not have been possible if humans had secured the locker properly. Last time I checked Bears where not known for their lock picking skills).

The Officer was given order to kill the two cubs by superiors. (video of the two cubs ordered to die)
Bryce Casavant rejected those orders and did what was best for the cubs.

And for that Bryce Casavant deserves huge praise.

Sadly Casavant was suspended for doing the right things because apparently following bad orders is more important then CONSERVING WILDLIFE (again Bryce Casavant is a CONSERVATION OFFICER FOR BC WILDLIFE).

Followup: While I am NOT a fan of the fanatical extremist group Anonymous, they did involve themselves in this issue by claiming to have "hacked" the transcript (emails) of communication between Casavant and superior. My personal opinion after reading the transcripts (if real) is the superiour wanted the cubs dead and the issue over and was not interested in having this issue hang around for long. So he tried to manipulate the law to back his demands.

If the transcripts (emails)are true then I am even more impressed with Bryce Casavant for standing up and doing the right thing at the right time.

Anonymous Hackers release Emails

Zero(s) of the Week

Well if you read the Heroes then Im sure you can guess the Zeros.

Take a bow Kathleen Wynne
Take a bow Ontario Provincial Police
Take a bow Ontario Wildlife
Take a bow BC Fish and Game (or what ever their official government name is)

You all completely failed innocent animals who simply found themselves in the wrong place.

You all should be down right ashamed.
Here in Ontario we are hammered daily by extreme left wing policies and agendas.
Protest of the week.
Yet NONE of these self serving hypocrites had the decency to stand up for some wildlife that had done NO HARM AT ALL.
In the case of the Newmarket Bear the Fish and Wildlife was 2 minutes away when the Newmarket bear was shot dead. TWO MINUTES.
Police say they didn't know how far away Wildlife was (what no one has a cell phone? cant call dispatch?) Take your fucking finger of the trigger and push a 10 digit number to get informed.
And wildlife, the bear was loose for almost 3 days but that was inconvenient for your week end?

Personally I think the Premier, the police that shot, and the wildlife that didnt respond should all be outright fired for GROSS INCOMPETENCE in the work place.

But in regard to Kathleen Wynne, that accusation of her sadly lacking abilities as a Premier and human being is hardly a new thing. She is a Walking, talking, travesty to any one else. Under her the disabled have suffered, the elderly have suffered, the wildlife has suffered, jobs have suffered, EVERYONE but those that share her sexuality and extreme left wing brand of socialism have suffered. She is an absolute disgrace on many levels beyond wildlife protection and conservation.

HZT Week 4

Hero of the Week

Animal Rescues Big and Small

Sad truth is, despite being a rather positive person over all, its getting harder and harder to find heroes each week worth mention (and its almost to point where it should be top 10 list for the Zeros).

So when no one jumps out, I can always rely on the Animal Rescues who work so dedicated and tirelessly day in and day out for the betterment of discarded dogs, cats, elephants, lions, tigers, bears, wolves, and just every type of animal out there that seems to so desperately need our protection and aide more and more.

So this week I will focus on 2 specific rescues

Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue
Based out of North Bay, Ontario, Canada area (but operate all over Ontario and is constant contact with other Coonhound rescues through out Canada and the USA)

From their Website "Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue is a small, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the memory of my beloved Coonhound, Jake.  Our volunteers are dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned Coonhounds find loving and permanent homes as indoor pets.

We are based and operate in Ontario. We have been rescuing these wonderful hounds since 2003. We are also a member of Coonhound Companions   where our goal is to educate the public about the misconception that hounds do not make good family pets. We want to share our love of Coonhounds with the whole continent, with hopes of inspiring dog lovers everywhere to consider adopting a Coonhound. "

This is the rescue I fostered for and these are good people, dedicated and caring people who do the very best they can  to make a difference.

Take a few minutes to look at their Website or even their Facebook Page and see if there is anything you can do to help. Even if its just a small donation or spreading their name around to others.

Big Cat Rescue

Based out of Tampa, Florida, USA

From their Website: "Big Cat Rescue is one of the largest accredited sanctuaries in the world dedicated to abused and abandoned big cats.
We are home to about 80+ lions, tigers, bobcats, cougars and other species most of whom have been abandoned, abused, orphaned, saved from being turned into fur coats, or retired from performing acts.
What sets Big Cat Rescue apart is that we are working to end the abuse at its root by ending the private possession and trade in exotic cats through legislation and education.
The sanctuary began rescuing exotic cats in Nov. 4, 1992.
This is one of my favorite Facebook feeds. They upload amazing pictures of cats big and small they have rescued and care for. Update information of future rescues and incidents they are involved in to protect these beautiful and majestic animals. Over time you start to feel you know these cats on a personal basis as you watch them grow, mature, settle in, and let their personalities come out.

If you have never watched a video of a circus Lion who lived its life in a cage and in constant fear and pain from the trainers whip, take its first few steps into its new habitat complete with pools/lakes, grass, trees, sunlight, treats, toys, but most of all freedom to just be a cat. Well you are missing a truly amazing visual experience.

Take a few minutes out of your day and visit their Website or even their Facebook Page and fall in love with these great animals that we have so precious few of now a days.

Zero of the Week

Well once again there is no shortage on morons and idiots lining up to be spoken about.

But with what is happening in Greece today I just feel the biggest ZERO OF THE WEEK has to be the concept of SOCIALISM in general. And of course those that promote this concept no matter how many times it fails and ruins good honest peoples life's, livelihoods, standard and way of life.

Today it appears Greece, so dedicated to having their government pay for everything for them, that they are rejecting the ONLY AIDE OFFER that has been offered. All because it would mean removing the socialist cover and making some hard choices on fiscal responsibility going forward.

Greece apparently has bought in to the completely false concept that you never run out of other peoples money to spend. They seem to think everything will stay the same way if they reject fiscal responsibility and just keep expecting everything to be free and paid for by their completely broke government.

Newsflash Greece, your government is out of money and out of credit.
No one is lining up to lend you more money
Your banks are broke and have put unheard of limits on withdraw amounts
Your government agencies are closed because there is no money to pay them to keep them employed
What good is a guarantee of your pensions if there is no money to pay the pension.

Socialists the world over do not seem to understand this simple cause and effect.
When you over spend and rely on credit
Eventually you run out of credit
You can promise your workers $15.00/hour or $100.00/hour
You can promise your people their very own pension
You can promise anything you want
BUT when the money runs out,
Those guarantees and promises are meaningless if there is no money to back them up

Detroit went heavy Union (a core socialist principle) and it went belly up when the costs were greater then the earnings for to long. Unions once served a true purpose and need but now a days cause far more problems then they have fixed in recent memory. A outdated concept designed to put pressure on employers and governments, regardless of the real income received by said business.

Greece is bankrupt and in denial as to how bad it is. They are defaulting on debt payments but seem to be clinging to this failed hope that next year their economy will suddenly grow (for first time in 6 years)  despite making zero reductions to the over bloated pay outs they have encored as a Socialist government.

Puerto-Rico is on verge of collapse from massive debt like Greece

Closer to Home, Ontario Canada under a 15 year socialist regime is so far in debt and driving business's away so fast that many predict it may start to feel the Detroit style effect. And Ontario socialist government is STILL increasing spending which is causing huge increases to its debt load.

There is no magic money tree to fund socialism.
EVERY Government needs to be firmly planted in FISCAL conservatism (note that FISCAL, not Social)

Personally I believe in Universal Healthcare
I believe in taking care of your sick, disabled, helpless
I believe in treating workers fairly and honestly
But ALL of these principles can be achieved while remaining FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE
When ANY would be leader says stuff like
"I have no problem running a deficit budget to fund all my extra programs"
"Budgets will balance themselves"
"Raising unprecedented increases of cost through taxation and other revenue tools on businesses will not negatively effect Business"
Referring to ANY taxation or cost increase as a "revenue tool"
And so many more TELLING STATEMENTS OF POOR FISCAL KNOWLEDGE.
When you see or read those from any political candidate, of any political stripe,
you need to run the other way as fast as you can.

Socialism on its own does not work.
It never has worked.
We see the disastrous effects of it more and more as left wing governments promise the moon just to hold onto power. And the people who want everything handed to them continue to vote these types in.

So this weeks ZERO is the entire concept of Socialism and any people who refuse to see the REAL EFFECTS of Socialism.

HZT Week #3

Hero of the Week

Washington State and their first Animal Overpass

I'm big into animal protection and animal rights and and this concept just thrills me to no end.

Big props to Washington Sate government for funding this project.
While not a fix all/cure all solution.
It certainly will not hurt either

And honestly, its nice to see a government body do something for animals so they don't have disasterous interaction with mankind.
Here in Ontario, Candad the provincial government policy just seems to be shoot the animal dead on sight and that way its not a problem now and will never be in the futire.

I can not express how much utter and complete disgust I hold toward Kathleen Wynne and her Ontario Provincial Government for how they mistreat and destroy wild animals (and domestic ones) as a cure all solution.

So big props to Washington State for doing something the right way!

Clearly someone gets it.

Zero of the Week

So I wanted to come up with some thought provoking and cleaver topic or person for Zero of the week. And there was no shortage of candidates from ISIS and the multiple deaths over 3 different countries they tied to. Justin Trudeau or Thomas Mulcaire for STILL NOT UNDERSTANDING ISIS is a real threat and you just cant hug them and have a chat with them. The Alberta NDP and the continued realization they belong to anti Oil Sand lobby groups which makes it a clear cut conflict of interest with them now governing the very same oil sands. To just how petty and lack of class Toronto media and sports fans behave and speak in regards to other Canadian sport markets.

Lots to choose from.

But in the end one specific image, that is so vile, nasty, disgusting, and generally unthinkable, keeps coming to mind.

I do not know who invented this
But if ever the title of Zero applied
It applies to the person who made this unthinkable disaster of a product

Some things should just be not invented or thought up!

Tech of the Week

Now normally the Tech of Week posting will have something to do with robotics, augmentations, or even computers as that's where my main level of interest falls under. And in this day and age there is not shortage of tech to talk about in those topics. We are making amazing advancements in all those areas with new advancements coming faster and faster and faster.

But sometimes you just have to go to the old standby of space exploration.

NASA's New Horizon Spacecraft will be taking our first up close pictures of Pluto in the very near future.

And that's exciting.

I still maintain that so many of our own problems can be answered in part or full by exploring the other worlds of our galaxy. From raw materials to planetary cycles to understanding different eco systems (and then building greater understanding of our own).

These will just be pictures but we have to start somewhere after all.

HZT Week #2

Hero of the Week: All the great fathers out there that do it right

Happy Fathers Day

Special mention to my brother who is the best father I know. And to all my friends who run a very close second, but are surely #1 to their children

Zero of the Week: Justin Trudeau wants MANDATORY voting

I just can not begin to explain what moronic idea this is.
I would rather have a 10% voter turn out then have endless uninformed people turning something as important as a election into a popularity contest.
Or worse, what if all the major party candidates are so dislike-able and untrustworthy (as the Federal Liberals and NDP are currently) that a protest vote happens from the uninformed and we end up with Greens? Communist? Anarchist? parties as our official government (yes I realize what a contradiction even having an anarchist party is, that's why they never get any votes) .

The people whose job it is to excite voters and increase turn out ARE THOSE RUNNING FOR OFFICE.

Trudeau once again doesn't understand or comprehend the issue at hand and just wants to mandate everything, thinking that will win him elections easier then having to win over the people hearts and minds with good solid well informed and constructed ideas and designs.

Justin Trudeau, you are an idiot beyond measure and like Mulcaire I think you will appear in this ZERO OF THE WEEK posting many many many more times before you finally do Canada (and the world) a favor an leave politics for your true love and calling of living off your inheritance and never working.

Tech of the Week: Dawn Engine (Gaming video engine used in Deus Ex 4: Mankind Divided)

I'm a gamer.
I fell in love with the potential of video games almost instantly
So as a gamer I get to see computers be pushed, upgraded, stretched to get the very best out of them
So when a company comes up with amazing new graphic engines its a big deal for me.

Deus Ex franchise was already an GORGEOUS looking game franchise but Eidos has upped their game yet again.
Take a look at the link above and enjoy everything it has to offer.
And then keep in mind these will be the STARTING POINT for next years release of Oculas Rift Virtual Reality Headsets and let your imagination run wild.

HZT Week 1

So welcome to week one of HZT. Hero, Zero, Tech of the week. This will be my first attempt at this so lets start off with some near and dear to my heart.

Hero of the Week:

So often we have decisions made by others that do not allow us any say or recourse. We are not happy with the change but lack the platform required to let those responsible know exactly how we feel.

Well that can not be said for Rhonda Pearson. A Arizona Coyote Fan who was unhappy with the recent ruling by her mayor and city council and took advantage of a meeting to let them all know EXACTLY how she feels.

Coyote Fan goes off on Mayor

Now you might think to yourself,
"really? That's your first hero"
And I say yes it is. Now a days we so rarely get the chance to speak our minds directly to the people responsible. And many more choose not to, if they ever find themselves in a position to.

So yes, I say she is a hero because she stepped up, said what she wanted to say, said it with out diminishing her opinion or statement, without vulgarity, and was more then passionate about what she wanted to say.

If more people stepped up and challenged those making wrong decisions, I think our world would be a better place. This was about Hockey and a stadium, but the principle can be applied to any host of topics and issues.

Zero of the Week:

So I doubt this will be this persons only appearance here but this issue and his dishonest and outright corrupt behavior lands him as the first Zero of the Week for me.

HZT : New weekly addition to blog

So for a while now I been trying to think of a way to use this blog that wouldn't require hours of effort every day.

Truth is I do that already on Facebook liking and shearing and ranting about those pictures and topics that have some impact on me, positive or negative.

And it seemed like a waste to just copy paste those stories here with my response already made.

Honest truth is most of those topic do not deserve a extra post or mention. When a topic is so important to me, I'm sure I will find the drive to write about it daily, but until then I have decided to go this route and do a weekly Hero, Zero, and Tech follow up.

So every Saturday I will go through the last week of stories and news and what not and find the 3 that stand out to me.

First will be Hero of Week. A person or story that was uplifting to me that deserves mention

Second will be Zero of the Week. This will be person or story that is so selfish or corrupt or idiotic (or hey, maybe all those traits combined) that deserves to be called out on his/her/its behavior or action.

And lastly will be Tech Story of the Week. Our times are changing and there is some amazing advancements being made in Robotic, augmentation, Virtual reality, and other tech that these stories slip by the mass congestion of garbage crap that passes off as news now a days.

So hope folks fine these weekly updates interesting, if nothing else.

Climate Change : 5 myths....and my take on it

Interesting article in Toronto Sun today Climate Change : 5 myths that will be completely dismissed by the left wing whack a do crowd that blindly support all forms of climate change theory. Which is a shame as if they would just apply the same level requiring evidence and proof to climate change theories, as they do to rest of their lives, we might actually build bridges and move forward on real productive change and policies.

I will however take exception to numbers 2 and 3 in the list.

Myth 2: Wind and solar power are effective in lowering emissions.

Regarding solar and wind energy. There is a few real problems that surround solar and wind energy as a viable alternative that the left wingers refuse to accept as fact, despite the mounds and mounds and mounds of evidence (some by their very own scientists and "experts").

Solar and wind are positive concepts and ideals but the biggest hurdle facing them at this moment is COST. They are just not cost effective at this point in time. That's the simple truth. We all love pictures of some multi-millionaire going to the extreme in alternative energy. Visually it looks awesome and with out fail you will see someone put the worst picture of the Oil Sands against a field of solar panels and say "This (solar) is better then this (oil field).

What they NEVER seem to grasp is that (oil field that never looks as bad as what left wingers try to make it look) supplies power to millions and millions and millions.

Where as that huge arse area of solar panels supplies power for 100s (not a typo) and costs more to maintain then the oil field at this time in history.

Wind is much the same problem cost effectiveness wise, as it currently stands.

And none of that bothers to address the MASSIVE NEGATIVE Impact Wind and Solar have on the environment as well. Not carbon but WILDLIFE. Wind Turbines kill more birds in a single season then a massive oil spill ever will. Yet we rarely hear about that VERY REAL DISASTER coming from them. And Wind Turbines also have the added benefit of disrupting mating and territorial marking driving wildlife away from their constant buzz and hum of the turbines. Animals that were born in a turbine region are often born deft and die shortly after. Wind Turbines have a HUGE negative impact on wildlife that the left try to hide and cover up when they speak about wind turbines and their effect.

Solar is no better in that regard. What do people really think happens to a bird or animal that gets to close to a solar panel in full operation and heating up? its killed or even worse blinded. If you put them on the water you disrupt fish and water temperature levels massively killing (or driving away) entire regions of fish and underwater life as the panel farm heats up the water in that area.

Solar and wind are lofty goals that should be pursued, tinkered with, adapted to suit our demands and needs. But they are NOT a cure all solution right now. They are PROVEN financially irresponsible and present a whole host of disastrous environmental issues of their own.

I believe solar and wind will one day play a big roll in our energy production but that day is not here now or the foreseeable future. The technology is still in its relatively young form and needs to continued research and improvement. Rushing it only hurts the people, the animals, the environment. Which is ironic as if you listen to the left wing whack a dos about climate change, they claim we need to do solar and wind NOW because of the people, animals, and environment.

But as usually that crowd only looks at a small portion of the entire bigger picture.

Regarding Number 3,

Myth 3: Canada’s oilsands are a major source of emissions.

Oil is dirty and probably does affect the environment is some negative way. One only need look at the REAL pictures (not the crap the activist left wingers try to portray Oil Sands as) to see there is allot of things happening there and you have to be foolish to think that much upheaval will have no lasting effect on the environment

BUT that doesn't change the truth about why we need Oil still.

Its really the same argument as what I wrote above. I think the article did some creative math for part of its article on the oil sands. I think everyone knows Oil (not just Oil sands but drilling, Fraking, all of it) is messy.

But right now its the cheapest form of wide spread fuel / power source we have. And cost + supply size trumps emissions at this point in time.

In time I have no doubt some alternative form of energy will over take Oil and the world very well might be better for it. We will see when that time comes. But for now, financially Oil is the best option. Mass supply is also Oil as the best option.

Alternative energy is simply not ready yet.
Not fully developed yet
Alternative energy simply is not the best solution or best answer at this stage of the game

Added a ton of old posts from old blog

So I use to have a Blog at a different location but it was hit or miss if I could even log in each day there as more often then not the servers seemed to be down.

When I eventually made this blog here, I had been unable to log into my other blog for over 2 months straight.

I figured the content there was lost and done

but I recently took a chance and hit a link over there and much to my surprise I was at least able to goto the blog page itself (forget about entering as admin to handle blog like that).

So happily I was able to recover the posts and articles I wanted to from it

They include my foster period with Speckles and some great stories about Rascal and Furball. Along with some other stuff.

ALLOT of that blog content seems to be missing as well but at least some of it was recoverable

So if you are interested take a look in the Animal Section, Andrew Section, and Politics Section for those old stories and pictures. Make sure you scroll to bottom of each page.

Some are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Enjoy

Growing older and wiser? Depends who you ask I guess.

About a year ago one of those stupid Facebook threads that you comment on and then given a topic to share forward was going around. So against my better judgement I commented on it (normally I stay far away from those silly mindless things) and was given the letter P. So I posted it and a longtime friend replied with "Political" and then followed up saying I have become much more political since moving out East.

At first I was defensive because Rick and I had always spoken about politics over daily routine coffee sessions when I lived in Edmonton. Issues ranging from teachers unions to Provincial budget, to heritage Trust fund, to really anything in news that day. Really the only difference being now was that we had access to much much much more information happening around the world thanks to the internet. Back then, while we both were very active in computers in our own right, the internet still wasn't the sounding board it would turn into. So most of our information still came from The Edmonton Sun newspaper and what we heard on radio and word of mouth.

So with limited information coming in, the discussions were less focused and less defined on our part as we simply did not have the mounds of information available to us today.

So in that sense I still maintain I have not become more political then I was back then. I just have more issues regarding politics to speak about now. More access to greater amount of content always means greater time spent on content.

That was my initial response to the claim.

But its stuck in my head, back of my mind, nagging at me since then.
Had I become more political as I grow older and why?
And in truth I very well may have.

See in Alberta in the 60s, 70s, 80s, even 90s you lived in a bubble. You knew your opinions (speaking mass population generality here) were different then those of rest of Canada. What you did not know or perhaps did not understand is how much different they were. And THAT part might have been the big eye opener for me when I moved out East and very well might drive my recently fueled interest in politics.

I always tell this story to people out here when they ask me how different was Alberta compared to Toronto...

The market's energy sector was down the most, with a three per cent decline.

Several of Canada's biggest oil and gas companies were down about four per cent in heavy trading.

Colin Cieszynski, chief market strategist at CME Markets Canada, says investors are reacting to the uncertainty stemming from the change in government in Alberta, where the NDP won a majority.

So that's interesting.
Federally business has faith in Harper and Cons and dollar rebounded with a strong rise but in that one area of Canada the market lost faith almost instantly over night

but yet the Left Wing media and NDP supporters will call this Right Wing scare tactics (which by teh way is why I am linking to a ultra left wing radio station report)

Tell me again how the NDP is going to help Alberta and no one really thinks they are anti business.

And you get money, and you get money, and you get money, and you get well er sorry were out of money, blame big business

So its no big surprise I think that I still follow Alberta politics and have a personal interest in the province doing well. I have family there. I have friends there. I even still to this day "had" planed to move back there at a certain point (this election might effect that in the long term but to early to tell on that front). Alberta has always been my home.

Until yesterday that is.

Now I am truly fearful of the future for my family, friends, even acquaintances because the REAL HISTORY regarding the consequences for the foolish actions of last nights election have been widely ignored by very ill informed (or out right uninformed) voters.

Alberta entered the election to RIGHTFULLY punish the PC Party who had maintained power there for 44 years. The PC party under Redford was at worst corrupt, or at best incompetent, either way she had to be removed. But when she was removed, what replaced her was arrogant, delusional, and also held no loyalty to the ideas and concepts of the past PC parties who grew and maintained the province so well.

Make no mistake, the Alberta PC party needed to be sent a message. A loud message. A clear message. A wake up call to get your house in order and stop with all the bullshit and self entitled corruption and arrogance that had been on display over the last number of years since Ralph Klein handed over the reigns of a very healthy and out of debt province.

But in sending that message the voters of Alberta seem to have lost their collective minds because they gave a majority to the very party who holds the least amount in common with Alberta traditions and values and whose federal Party Line has always been to destroy the very industry that allowed Alberta to profit and grow and become "A HAVE PROVINCE".

Gotta wonder about some people

I've heard the term anarchist before but don't think I ever truly understand the depth of these types delusion until having a political argument with one. Oh it started as a joke that trended into a discussion that trended into an argument when I refused to accept the philosophy that taxation was the act of committing violence on those being taxed (yes you did not misread that one, that's seriously what the person I was arguing with was claiming.

Or more exactly, if you refused to pay your taxes then you were violently threatened unreasonably.
